Mongolia Khustai Park Excursions
Mongolia Khustai Park Excursion takes you to the Mongolian Government declared Khustai National Park as a Specially Protected Area in 1993, one year after the initiation of the reintroduction project of the Takhi to the Khustain Nuruu. Mongolia Khustai Park extends through the Khentii Mountains and includes the western edge of the Mongolian steppe at the boundaries of Altanbulag, Argalant and Bayankhangai Soums of Tov province.
Mongolia Khustai Park is about 100 km from the capital city of Ulaanbaatar to the west.The Hustai NP covers 50.6 ha land which is home to 459 species of vascular plants, 85 species of lichens, 90 species of moss and 33 species of mushrooms. 44 species of mammals have been recorded, including Red deer, Mongolian gazelle, Roe deer, Wild boar, Wild sheep, Ibex, Mongolian marmots, Grey wolves, Lynx, Pallas’ cat, Red fox, Corsac fox and Eurasian badger.
The 217 species of birds include Golden eagle, Lammergeier, Great bustard, Whooper swan, Black stork, Daurian partridge and Little owl. There are 16 species of fish, 2 species of amphibians, and 385 species of insects (including 21 species of ants, 55 species of butterflies, 10 species of bush crickets and 29 species of grasshoppers). A new species of soil insect has been found in the Hustai and given the scientific name of Epidamaeus khustaiensis.
In 2002, the Man and the Biosphere Reserves organization of UNESCO certified the Hustai NP as a member of the world biosphere network of natural reserves.
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Overland by Jeep to Mongolia’s Khustai Park
At a pre-arranged time you will be met by your driver and guide and driven to the west. The drive will take about 2 hours until you reach Khustai National Park where re-introduction of the wild Przewalski horses has taken place since 1992.
On arrival you will have lunch at the camp. There is an interesting information center where you will be supplied with all the necessary facts and data. The afternoon will be spent at leisure hiking in the surrounding mountains with an evening visit to the wild horses while they come to drink in the evening. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.
Mongolia Khustai Park Excursion – Full Day of Hiking!
A full day of hiking along a prepared route accompanied by your guide. There will be plenty of wild life to see, including vultures, deer, marmots and of course the Przewalski horses. You will have lunch at Mount Khoshoot, and descend into the North Bird Cherry Valley for dinner and overnight. You will be accommodated in charming wooden huts.
Mongolia Khustai Park Excursion – Horse Riding
This morning you will saddle up your horses and ride towards the ancient, so-called Turkic graves, which are the remains of an ancient tribe which existed in this area during the 6th-9th centuries. On the way we will visit a nomadic herders family and learn about their lifestyles. You will be accompanied by your guide and a horse wrangler to look after you. You will observe a piece of history while enjoying your packed lunch, before continuing to a a beautiful island on the Tuul River where you will spend your last night in a tent.
Overland by Jeep to Ulaanbaatar
After breakfast we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar. The drive will take two and a half hours. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel.
