Mongol Warriors Training! A Real Ancient Bootcamp!
In winter 2004, a BBC team in collaboration with of High and Wild carried out “Mongol Warriors training” program in the Khentii Mountain Ranges of Mongolia, which later featured a chapter ‘Tasting Warrior Life’ in the BBC book titled ‘Unforgettable Things To Do Before You Die.’
Exploding from a small nomadic tribe of the Central Asian steppes, Mongols Warriors created the largest empire time has ever witnessed. Having been the most agile, strong and swift, they employed the most advanced tactics and strategies.This Mongol Warriors program gives you the opportunity to discover the reasons that made the warriors such a powerful troop. Ride horses through the boundless steppes and learn to set up numerous campfires in order to make your enemies feel themselves outnumbered. Visit nomadic families and share a day of the lifestyle that has not changed since centuries ago, taste the renowned fermented mares’ milk and drink the Mongolian milk wine. Learn about the Mongol weaponry, equipments, and battle tactics – It’s all about Mongol Warriors.
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar
Sightseeing and Welcoming Dinner
On your arrival in Ulaanbaatar you will be transferred to the Chinggis Khan Hotel. After lunch at a local restaurant there will be a city tour including the National History Museum, the richest collection of Mongolia’s history, from Stone Age to modern times. It allows to retrospect the unique culture of nomadic horse riders and their lifestyle. The exhibition contains many artifacts of traditional handicrafts and arts, military equipment and arms of Chinggis Khaan warriors. Afterwards we will visit the Mongolian Military museum, a short introduction to the secrets of Mongol’s military prowess of XIII century. A welcome dinner will be served at a local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Mongol Warriors Training – Archery & Horse Riding
This morning you will be met by your guide at the hotel lounge and start driving to the east of Ulaanbaatar, where you will be trained to be a warrior of Chinggis Khaan. You will stay at Nomads ger camp, where you will have theory and practical lessons to become a warrior. After lunch you will have Archery and Horse riding classes, as you know that Mongolian warriors were all skilled archers. There is a stone monument dedicated to the Chinggis Khaan’s nephew who struck the target from 335 ald or about 500 meters. After dinner at your ger camp you will mount your horse and go for a night guarding post for looking after the warrior’s horses.
Mongol Warriors Training – Repast
After collecting your horses you will have breakfast at your ger camp. The highlight of today’s program is that you will learn how to cook Warrior’s repast and learn about how to make Mongolian milk product including and some special recipes which are still common at the present time. You will master riding horses and learn skills of catching a horse with a lasso and learn to shoot from a standing position and as well as from the horseback. N. Vitsen, a scholar who visited Mongolia in the last century described: “…they sit low on a horse to turn the bow easily towards the enemy. They ride fast but then turn and make a shot.” Dinner and overnight will be at the same ger camp.
Mongol Warriors Training – Tactical Class & Learning the Importance of The Eternal Blue Sky
Today you will learn Chinggis Khaan war/battle tactics including inspecting and finding the better war position. You will learn one of the main components of the 3 manly games – Olympic games of nomads- wrestling tricks. Later in the afternoon you will learn a Mongol song to sing later during a festival before you set off to the warfare. XIII century Mongols worshipped the blue sky and believed their ancestors were Chinggis Khaan. Before going to a war they used to invite a shaman to call the spirit of a war victory followed by a big festival with rich meals and arts.
Mongol Warriors Training – Urtuu to Urtoo Horse Riding
Mongols moved great distances. Extremely simple life style and employment of although simple but well proven technologies enabled them to do so. You will do exactly the same during these three days – true days of challenge. The skills you have acquired in the past few days will help you to survive on the Mongol Ride. Each day we will ride a distance of one “urtuu”, one third of what Chinggis’ postmen rode in one day. A perfectly organized network of ‘urtuus’ covered the whole of the Mongol Empire, enabling message delivery from as far as the Black Sea within 2 weeks.
Mongol Warriors Training Wrap Up & Farewell Dinner
After a relaxed morning you will drive to Tsonjin Boldog. The statue in total is 40m high from surface erected at about 10 m high foundation and surrounded by columns. The statue, Chinggis riding his horse, is made by 250 tonnage steel. It is largest horse-riding statue in the World. Far sighted Chinggis Khaan holds a golden whip in his right hand. The building consisted of 36 supporting columns, symbolizes 36 kings who are direct lineage of Chinggis Khaan.In the afternoon we will be met by our support team and taken to Ulaanbaatar for a farewell dinner. During dinner there will be a small ceremony to hand you Certificate for your successful participation in the Chinggis Khaan Warrior Training program. Overnight in the hotel.

Transportation within Mongolia, twin accommodation in a 4 star hotel. Single accommodation can be arranged at an additional cost. Tented accommodation while on trek, three meals a day, English-speaking guide, transfers, camel or horse hire where specified, support staff including drivers, horse/camel men and camp assistants.
International transportation, travel insurance, visas, departure tax, alcoholic drinks, gratuities, items of a personal nature.
It is the responsibility of the client to be fully covered with travel and medical insurance while traveling in Mongolia.
Upon request a single supplement in the countryside can be provided at the additional cost. In case single accommodation in ger camps was not provided the amount would be calculated based on the missing nights and reimbursed. Nomads cannot be held responsible for over bookings, as long as the company can prove with sufficient documentation that overbooking has been the error of the third party.
Should circumstances beyond our control, such as the imposition of quarantine restrictions, any changes of the domestic flight or train schedules, require a change of itinerary, we will inform your agent and propose an equivalent itinerary. Again, Nomads cannot take over the responsibility for the Airlines or the National Train Company. The traveler is responsible for having proper travel documents, such as a valid passport, proper visa, and the necessary passport pictures.
