MONGOLIA TRAVEL MAPS - Nomadism, Nature, Gazelles - Eastern Mongolia - Mongolia Nomads Tours

Eastern Mongolia Adventures!

In May 2003 an exploration team from Nomads visited eastern Mongolia and made a discovery: a wealth of thrilling landscapes, untouched nature, wildlife and the essence of nomadic hospitality. It is more than a pleasure to share our discoveries with travelers and adventurers!

This new Eastern Mongolia Nomad’s trip is in one of the least explored parts of Mongolia, namely that of the eastern steppe. In this vast and extensive area you will camp next to lakes and rivers and we will immerse you into the recent and ancient history of Eastern Mongolia.

The highlight of the Eastern Mongolia trip is the hidden valley called “Sleeping Beauty” , which is all but inaccessible due to its remoteness. Our team members that explored the area were probably amongst only a few visitors that the valley has seen in the last few decades.

A rich spectrum of wildlife ranging from steppe gazelles and wolves to otters and elk expect you. This is where you can observe thousands of gazelles crossing your way or hundreds of cranes and other rare birds flocking before they migrate to warmer places. Local rangers will guide you to spot elks and otters.

A traditional homeland of nomadic tribes since Hun times, the area has preserved the best traditions of nomadic hospitality already forgotten in Central Mongolian areas which is a striking surprise even to the Mongols themselves. You will learn about the lifestyles of the local people by riding horses together, visiting their homes as well as learning about how the local communities are striving to preserve their traditions in this new era and environment. Bee farmers, and herb planters will introduce you to their new challenges.

Finally there will be a day for your disposal in the city of Ulaanbaatar with some sightseeing and shopping.

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar

Sightseeing and Welcoming Dinner

Today you will arrive in the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar. This city, once the Buddhist and spiritual heartland of the nomadic peoples of Mongolia, is now a thriving commercial and industrial center. The monasteries still remain, even after the communist purges, yet they now rest alongside Internet cafes, nightclubs and streets teeming with rush hour traffic. However, Ulaanbaatar is still a capital where a grazing cow, a traditionally dressed nomad or a truck loaded with produce from the country can be found.

It is amongst these fascinating juxtapositions that our journey begins. After arriving in Ulaanbaatar, you will be met at the airport and transferred to a 4-star hotel. After a light lunch in the hotel, there will be a program of sightseeing in the afternoon. This will include the Bogd Khan Palace, which is a series of beautiful traditional buildings, where the last religious King of Mongolia resided. We will have dinner at a local restaurant and return to the hotel for a well-earned rest.
