Camel Riding Tours
The Gobi stretches over large parts of southern and western Mongolia, alpine, snowcapped Mountains with their glaziers give a constant flow of water, creating green, winding bands. The wind that blows through the flats, piled up sand dunes over 200 meters high and stretching up to many hundred kilometers, creating obstacles within the land, difficult to penetrate. Next to the sand, there are beautiful oases, with streams of water floating straight out from beneath the sand dune, creating large patches of green grass, bushes and trees.
Here… lives, flourishes, all kind of birds, wild animals, sometimes as well as families that stay here for a while to graze their animals; and when night falls, many hundred kilometers away from the next village the starry sky is unforgettable.
To move around the camps from one grazing location to the next, the camel is the perfect animal, its big feet are perfectly designed to walk on sandy ground. Distances in the desert are much further then what the nomads in more northern lands of Mongolia usually travel. That’s no problem for camels, as they can go on and carry heavy loads for days without drinking.
Sparely Mongolians ride their camels, though they tend to be trained. The camel is losing the competition from the horse and today additional the motorcycle. The character of the camel is quite special and it takes a while to make it content with the rider on its back. It seems not wanting to join into that special unity of rider and animal, we do feel when we ride through stunningly beautiful landscape. But once that fragile peace is achieved, it is a wonderful experience!
Within a few our programs we include one or two days camel riding, but do organize as well longer riding tours for clients that want to experience the slow change of that spectacular landscape in a linear itinerary over may days.
Naturally those treks would be accompanied by our cook and kitchen truck, supplied with sufficient water, food, shade and comfort to enjoy the journey.
