Hiking and Camping in Mongolia

Explore Mongolia’s modern capital, Ulaanbaatar before we start hiking and camping in Mongolia through the stunning Baga Khentii Mountain range where Chinggis Khaan grew up. Camp amidst mountains, trees, flowers and abundant wildlife. Return to Ulaanbaatar for a well-deserved reflexology foot massage!

Chinggis Khaan, one of the greatest leaders the world has ever known, spent much of his youth in the forested foothills of the Khentii Mountains – hiking and camping in Mongolia. Chinggis Khaan had his humble beginnings as a small boy called Temuujin, living on the banks of the Onon River in the area of present day Khentii province. Temuujin spent his days in Khentii herding, riding, and looking after his family. He worshipped Tenger, the blue sky and ruler of heaven. Today Chinggis is known as the unifier of the tribes of Mongolia and hero of the Mongolian people. Myths about the great man are plentiful amongst the local people.

As we go hiking and camping in Mongolia – our journey takes us deep into the valleys, hills and meadows of what is known as the Baga Khentii Mountain Range – Baga meaning small, as this range is the smaller sister of the mightier range of Khentii Mountains found further to the north. The trek will be within the boundaries of the Gorkhi Terelj National Park. This Park encompasses some of the most spectacular mountains in Mongolia, with a landscape of pine and birch and a proliferation of wildflowers in the summer months. In autumn the trees produce an amazing display of coloured leaves. On this journey we will also visit the Gunjiin Monastery, an ancient monastery left largely in ruins, yet retaining its own unique charm and mystery.
