Day
1 Arrive Ulaanbaatar
Arrive in Ulaanbaatar. You will be met at the airport and
transferred to a 3-star hotel. Lunch at the hotel and dinner
at the Chinggis Restaurant. (Korean buffet).

2 Sightseeing in Ulaanbaatar
Today is a full day of guided sightseeing in Ulaanbaatar including
visits to Gandan Monastery, and the Bogd Khaan Palace Museum. Lunch will
be in a local restaurant and after lunch you will attend a
lecture on Mongolian History given by a Professor from the
Mongolian State University. In the evening there will be a
folklore show, followed by dinner at a local restaurant, before
returning to the hotel for the night.

3 Baganuur – Khentii Mountain range – Kherlen
River
After breakfast at the hotel we will set off into the countryside
in our vehicles. The drive is approximately 200km and will
take about 8 hours. We will head northeast out of Ulaanbaatar
and pass through the large town of Baganuur. Continuing into
the Khentii Mountain Range, we will reach the soum of Mongonmort
in the late afternoon. Situated in the town are the headquarters
of Khan Khentii National Park. We will meet the park rangers
who will give us a brief introduction to the National Park.
Our campsite will be about an hour’s drive from the
town, on the banks of the Kherlen River.

4 Burkhan Khaldun Mountain
Today we will continue driving for about 60km to the foothills of Burkhan
Khaldun. We will camp near the foot of the mountain
and visit an ‘ovoo,’ the site of worship, which
is nearby. Ovoos generally consist of piles of rocks and other
offerings to the gods such as blue silk, money, and food.
To worship you place your offering on the ovoo and walk clockwise
around it three times.

5 Relaxation – optional hiking – visit nomad families
A day of rest at the camp at the foothill of the mountain. You
can choose to hike in the mountain, and there will also be
the opportunity to visit local nomadic families. Meals and
overnight stay at the previous night’s camp.
Day 6 Lake Khokh
Today we will get back in the vehicles and drive to Lake Khokh.
This is a small lake surrounded by forested mountains. It
is famous as the site of the historical event in the 13th
century when Temuujin was granted the title of Chinggis Khaan.
We will camp by the lake.

7 Baldanbereeven Monastery – visit possible burial site
of Chinggis Khaan
Today we continue driving until we reach a place recently
discovered and named as a possible burial place of Chinggis
Khaan. In the summer of 2001 and 2002 a joint American-Mongolian
expedition conducted research in the hope of discovering the
burial site of the Mongolian royal family of the XIIIth century.
We will visit Baldanbereeven Monastery en route. We will stay
overnight at the ger camp.

8 Explore the burial site – Oglogchiin Wall
We will have a day of rest at the burial site, exploring the
area. Today we will also visit Oglogchiin Wall, which is about
10km from our camp. We will have meals and spend the night
at the previous night’s camp.

9 Drive towards Terelj – camp on Kherlen River bank
– 130km
Today we will drive towards Terelj. On the way we will camp
on the shores of the Kherlen River.

10-11 Riding in Terelj National Park – traditional Mongolian
dinner – 180km
Today we will reach the ger camp at Terelj National Park.
There will be horses available each day, and every afternoon
there will be organized horseback trips with guides. The ger
camp is near the home of the guides, so you can observe their
everyday activities. In the morning you can hike in the surrounding
areas or ride a short distance. All meals will be at the ger
camp. Tonight there will be a farewell dinner with our drivers
and horsemen. We will have the traditional meal ‘khorkhog,’
which is mutton cooked slowly in a huge, metal urn with vegetables,
water, and hot rocks from a flaming fire. The meat becomes
soft and tasty and the water turns into a thick meaty broth.

12 Return to Ulaanbaatar – shopping & sightseeing
Today we head back to Ulaanbaatar. It is about a 2½ hour
drive and on arrival you will be taken to your hotel for a
rest. Before dinner at a local restaurant, there will be time
to do some shopping or sightseeing in the city.

13 Departure
After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for
your international departure
Prices
include the following: Transportation within Mongolia,
twin accommodation in a 3 star hotel. Single accommodation
can be arranged at an additional cost. Tented accommodation
while on trek, three meals a day, English-speaking guide,
all sightseeing costs, transfers, camel or horse hire where
specified, support staff including drivers, horse/camel men
and camp assistants.
Prices
do not include: International transportation, travel
insurance, visas, departure tax, alcoholic drinks, gratuities,
items of a personal nature.
It is the responsibility
of the client to be fully covered with travel and medical
insurance while traveling in Mongolia.
Please
note: An additional ‘single supplement’
price is given with all our prices. This refers to single
room accommodation in hotels only. Upon request, single supplement
in the countryside can be provided at the additional cost.
In case single accommodation in ger camps was not provided
the amount would be calculated based on the missing nights
and reimbursed.
Nomads cannot be
held responsible for over bookings, as long as the company
can prove with sufficient documentation that overbooking has
been the error of the third party.
Should circumstances
beyond our control, such as the imposition of quarantine restrictions,
any changes of domestic flight or train schedules, require
a change of itinerary, we will inform your agent and propose
an equivalent itinerary. Again, Nomads cannot take over the
responsibility for the Airlines or the National Train Company.
The traveler is responsible for having proper travel documents,
such as a valid passport, proper visa and the necessary passport
pictures.
